Kiwanians volunteer at Recycling Center - 12/11/2017

A big thank you goes out the the following Kiwanians for helping at the Recycling Center Saturday morning:

Del Junge (for setting this up and making some awesome brownies), Pee Wee Schulz, Allan Schmidt, Cliff Lowell, Gene Brott and Ralph Hansen.  The space heater was very nice to have on the loading dock (see pic of Pee Wee).  Great work this morning.  Del has February on the planner for the next time we do this important mission....he promises warmer weather.....ha!


Members visit other Kiwanis Clubs - 12/06/2017

Members of the local Kiwanis Club of Seward attended an Inter-Club meeting with
the Lincoln Capital City Club recently. Seward members Marv Taylor, Kandi
Brown, Ralph Hansen and Jerry Meyer visited the club for its annual visit. The
Lincoln club meets on Tuesday evenings at 6:00pm at the Cotner Center, 1540
Cotner Blvd. President Dan Carlson greeted the Seward group and introduced
them to the gathering.
The club had a wonderful meal of chicken, potatoes, carrots, salad, cake and tea
for the guests. They had pre-entertainment going on during the meal provided by
a club member playing the piano. The meeting opened with the singing of God
Bless America and the Pledge of Allegiance. The club acknowledged...


Local Business Gives Update - 12/01/2017

 

Richard Gokie, owner of Fastmart in Seward, covers the construction time-line and answers questions on the new building going up in Seward. Thank you so much Richard for taking the time to come over and update the club. The new store is looking great!


TeamMates Mentoring - 12/01/2017

The Seward Noon Kiwanis was honored to have Nich Herrington, Southern Regional Coordinator for TeamMates speaking at the club recently. Nich was a graduate of Fort Hays State University, University of Nebraska-Kearney and Chadron State College. He has been the regional coordinator for TeamMates the past three years. The organization was founded by Coach Tom Osborn in 1991 and has been highly successful in providing at risk youth with adult mentorship. Nich spoke to the group about his mentor and how he worked with his mentee’s to on a weekly basis in the program.

Retired Guard General and Author Speaks about the Late Howard Hughes - 10/17/2017

Former Nebraska Air National Guard Major Mark Musick spoke to the Seward noon Kiwanis recently. 

A retired Nebraska Air National Guard major general, Mark Musick dedicated over a decade to uncover a story which he never expected, nor sought to tell. Yet, through a strange twist of fate, in which a key figure in the story entrusted him, was the answer to one of the single and biggest mysteries of the late 20th Century….the story of Howard Hughes.
A native of Blair, NE, General Musick attended college in his hometown, Dana College. This is where Musick met and married his college sweetheart, Susan, prior to entering the military. He rose through the ranks of the U.S. Air Force...


Heartfelt Inc. - 04/03/2017

Sharon Dickinson and Diane Krieser presented a very inspiring program onHeartfelt Inc. a Children's Memorial located at the SE corner of Columbia Ave. and Hillcrest here is Seward. Additions and improvements continue to be made such as the recent Butterfly garden. Over 250 names have been added to the wall that acknowledges the Children who left us too soon.


Ag Banquet - 03/20/2017

Elaine and I attended the 49th Annual Kiwanis and SCCDP Ag Recognition Banquet at the Ag Pavilion this evening with 540 attendees.  Larry & Doug Tonniges and families were recognized as the 2017 Kiwanis Outstanding Farm Family of the Year. Some years ago, the Seward County Chamber and Development Partnership, joined Kiwanis in the recognition of an Annual Agribusiness Award winner. This year's winner was Doug Brand. The Briggs Family and Seward Co. Fair Ag Scholarships were also presented to selected students.
